Hike: Boon Fork Trail

Doug on our Caravan organized a great 5.2 mile hike at the Julian Price Memorial Park: Boone Fork Trail. Just Gorgeous. We had 12 People and 2 dogs. We had a great time. T

Epic hike! Took us 3 hours & 45 minutes to complete. Went clockwise through the campgrounds first. Beautiful, well-maintained, well-marked trail with small water crossings, stairs, and rock scrambles to navigate. It was challenging but doable. Hiking poles were helpful.

Grand Father Mountain

On Saturday, the group toured Grand Father Mountain with the famous “Mile High” Swinging Bridge. The winds were blowing around 35mph (56kph) and the winds blew in hard. It was an adventure. By the way, they only close the bridge when the winds get above 55mph.

Actual Photo while we were ther from a couple of guys who like to take action shots!

After conquering the bridge, we went to the Wildlife Habitat to see cougars (which no longer live in the wild on Grandfather Mountain), black bears, bald eagles, river otters and elk. These animals were all rescued and could no longer survive in the wild.

Travel Day 3 – Partly Cloudy

Drove from Spruce Pine, NC (Milepost 334) to Boone, NC (Milepost 280)

Our drive was much more enjoyable. The fog was gone, although it did rain a bit.

We saw man-made Price Lake and damn which was cool. Linda got some great pictures of our Airstream. The Linn Cove Viaduct was also amazing.
