Dauphin Island, Alabama

We spent the past week relaxing on Dauphin Island in Alabama. This is a nice, quiet island get away. We are staying at the Pelican Nest RV & Campground. A small RV park across the street from the beach.

We have enjoyed walking on the beach on the nice days, and relaxing on the rainy days. We rented bikes 1 day and rode to the west end of the island. We also drove to the east end of the island and enjoyed the bird sanctuary at Shell Mound Park.

Sunday, we head to Florida for 4 final days of beach time before heading north.

Monroe, WI

We stopped by in Monroe to see Pam’s great Aunt Lilian and Bob. It was a very nice visit. They were our last visit heading home in the Spring and our first visit heading out. Looking forward to stopping by in the spring again.

We used our Harvest Host membership to once again stay 1 night at Hawk’s Mill Winery where we stayed in the spring. Upon arrival, Tracy remembered us from the spring, and welcomed us in. She made fantastic flat bread pizzas and the wine was great again. We ended up buying a couple of bottles of “Happy Camper” wine and a bottle of Rose.

If you are in the area, we highly recommend stopping in!

Gregory House

A beautiful Southern mansion, the Gregory House, built in 1849 by prominent Calhoun County planter Jason Gregory, originally stood across the Apalachicola River from the park at Ocheesee Landing.
When first built, it stood atop five-foot-high brick pillars, an architectural feature that kept the interior of the home safe from the annual floods of the river.
