Chiricahua National Monument

Echo Canyon Loop is a 4 mile heavily trafficked loop trail located near Willcox, Arizona that offers the chance to see wildlife and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, running, and bird watching and is accessible year-round.

The trail is in the Chiricahua National Monument Park. Fantastic views and great rock formations. So different than anything else we have seen. If you are in the area, you need to get here. The trail is above 6,000 feet, so it was a bit cold and there was snow (our first of the season – and last we hope).

We did the moderate 4 mile loop, but next time we need to do the Big Loop, so we can see Bog Balanced Rock and Pinnacle Balanced Rock on the trails.

We took lots of pictures below, but they do not do justice to the beauty of this place! Click here for photos from the Park’s webpage.

Mi Casa Restaurant

If you are ever in Benson, AZ you must eat at Mi Casa.

This is a family run restaurant with fabulous food. The food presentation was so pleasing to the eye. The flavors were amazing. Don’t leave without getting the Carrot cake and Sopapillas. Wow!

This is a very small restaurant with a limited number of tables, so be patient, you will not be disappointed. We both had the daily specials – outstanding.

Kartchner Caverns State Park

Normally, we are not big cave people, but Kartchner Caverns are very nice. We took the “Big Room” guided tour which takes and Hour and 45 minutes. Very interesting and informative. We will take the Rotunda/Throne Tour the next time we are in town.

You are not allowed to take pictures or video. In fact they want you to leave all your stuff in your car or a locker to protect the cave. Here is a video showing the Caverns.

SKP Saguaro Co-op

Lot 172

This week, we are staying in Benson, AZ at the SKP Saguaro Co-op. Only members of Escapees can stay here, and the cost is very reasonable. A week is $130, and for a first timer, it is only $80/week.

The Co-Op was started in the late 1980’s, and is a unique idea. A membership in the SKP Saguaro Co-op entitles the purchaser to a lifetime lease on a lot.

Neighbor has great landscaping

The basic price of a membership is $13,495.00. This figure is the core of the cost of a lifetime lease. The cost of any improvements made by the previous leaseholders are added to this figure. Fully developed lots can run up to $40,000 with great little casitas. there is also an annual maintenance fee of around $1,200.

When you quit, the lot goes back into the pool for another member to buy. The value does not appreciate like other properties, so you will not make money, but is a guaranteed no lose investment.

It only costs $500 to get onto the hotlist / waiting list, so we did it. As of today, we are #340. It may take a few years, but we have time.

Click here for a virtual tour that explains the history and all of the amenities (which are many).

Here is a video from the owners of our lot #172. It is owned by Chris and Cherie, A couple I follow on YouTube and have leaned a great deal to upgrade our Airstream from their RV Mobile Internet site.

Sunshine Everyday

Tuesday night we overnighted at Boogie’s Brewery and Distillery (Harvest Hosts) in Deming, NM. Very interesting place with lots of character. They stopped brewing during Covid, and are only distilling various rums and tequila. They have different food trucks every night; for us, it was Taco Tuesday and we enjoyed the tacos. Stop by and see Entrepreneurial Sprint at its best. These people are working hard make a business. Fun People!

Wednesday and Thursday nights we stayed at Lifestyle RV Resort and Fitness in Wilcox, AZ. Nice setup with an indoor heated pool and Hot tub. They also have a sauna, great workout room and lots a other amenities. We would highly recommend them. All for $40/night. Small park but not small on amenities.

On Thursday, we went to Willcox Playa Wildlife Area in search of Sand Hill Cranes. There is a 2.4 mile loop out to a lake where they like to nest. It was a nice, peaceful hike, but unfortunately we did not see any cranes. Maybe next time. The hike was worth the great views of the desert and the mountains on either side.

On the way back, we stopped at Birds and Barrels for a Wine Tasting. We sampled 6 wines and all were good. We learned that Willcox is the biggest wine producing region in Arizona. There are 6 wine tastings within walking distance, and many, many vineyards.

There are 7 Winery Harvest Hosts in the area. We could have winery hopped every night – idea for the future. Willcox is very nice with a cute downtown. We will return here now that we know all it has to offer.
