Baraboo Rally

In early October, we attended the Airstream Wisc-UP Rally in Baraboo, Wisconsin. Our 3rd rally of the year. There was good attendance with over 20 trailers. We stayed at the Skillet Creek Campground on the south side of Baraboo.

On Friday, we took care of official business and elected new officers:

We then toured the Al Ringling Museum with the Al Ringling Brewery attached. This is the only museum tour we have ever taken where you can take a beer with you! The tour was interesting and afterwards, we had dinner in the beer hall. The circus organ is amazing.

Saturday, we visited the Ski-Hi Apple orchard in the morning where they have a huge gift stop and great baked goods baked on site. In the afternoon, we visited the Mid-Continent Railway Museum where we took a 7-mile (round trip) train ride through the countryside.

On Sunday, small group of us toured the Al Ringling Theater. Truly outstanding; you need to take this tour if you are in town. Called America’s Prettiest Playhouse
built in 1915. Al. Ringling Theatre is a treasure of rare quality. Magnificent and richly designed in the style of grand French opera houses, the theatre is a masterpiece of European architecture.

DeTour Village, Michigan

We spent our last 2 days in the western UP at Paradise Point RV Park in DeTour Village, Michigan. This is a new, small campground on the St. Marys River on the furthest most point of the UP. Right before Drummond Island. The owners are doing a great job, and everything is well maintained and done properly. A bit expensive at $65/night.

Not a lot to do here if you don’t fish or hunt or ride 4 wheelers. But it is very peaceful and relaxing. We drove to Cedarville and had lunch at the Les Cheneaux Distillers and Brewery. Food was good and so was their beer. We did not taste any of their distilled products.

We now head back to the Twin Cities for warranty service on our awning (again) on Wednesday. Replacing our awning motor that shorted out and replacing our LP tanks because the sensors stopped working.

Green Bay, Wisconsin

We spent 4 days in Green Bay on our way to the UP of Michigan. We stayed at the Brown County Reforestation Camp Campground. A well-run government campground. Large sites and nice amenities.

Our first day we toured Title Town and then took the 2-hour Legendary Stadium Tour. Fantastic. We saw the entire stadium including the Visitors Locker Room, Broadcast Booth, a couple of suites and the roof. We then went out the tunnel to the field.

We watched the first half of the Packers / Bears game at Lambeau field / 1919 Kitchen & Tap. We watched the second half at the Hinterland Brewer in Title Town.

Monroe Rally

In August, we traveled to the Madison, WI area for the Eat Drink and Yodel! Rally. Pam volunteered to write an article for newsletter. Click here to read.

We visited the National Historic Cheesemaking Center Museum and the Imobersteg Cheese factory. We went to the Alp and Dell cheese store connected to the Emmi Roth Cheese Factory. The next day, the group toured a dairy farm. Kelly went golfing at Monroe Golf Club. That evening we toured Turner Hall and then had dinner there with our special guest – Uncle Bob!

Ishnala Supper Club

Before the Monroe Airstream Rally, we stayed at Mirror Lake State Park. While there, we visited the International Crane Foundation in Baraboo. This is a global organization dedicated to saving cranes. They also rescue cranes around the world and have built fantastic habitats for them.

We had dinner at Ishnala Supper Club; voted the best supper club in Wisconsin. They do not take reservations. We had a 2 hour wait while we sampled their famous Old Fashions and walked the grouinds.

Pam and I were seated at famous table 15. The best table in the house (for 2 people). It is in the corner of the room and is featured on the cover of the book: Wisconsin Supper Clubs: An Old-Fashioned Experience.
