Brewster, Washington & Road Trip

On Saturday, we drove 64 miles to the Brewster City Cover RV Park in Brewster, Washington. Nothing spectacular about this campground and town except it has a great location to get out and see things.

On Sunday, a group of us drove over 200 miles up into the cascade mountains. We saw Diablo Lake (amazing turquoise water) and then hiked to Ross Dam. The hike was strenuous down to the dam, but boy was it worth it. The dam is easy to access and walk across; you can touch and see everything. Very fun for an engineer.

We then went to the Washington Pass Overlook and hiked that trail.

On the way home we stopped for dinner at East 20 Pizza. Fantastic Pizza and Beer. We were serenaded by Roberto from Cuba. Very fun!

Coulee City, WA

On Thursday, we drove 88 miles to Sun Lake – Dry Falls State Park in Coulee City, Washington. Wow, what a great state park in a beautiful setting in the bottom of a large Coulee (large flat valley).

The Coulee Dry Falls is a geological wonder of North America. Carved by Ice Age floods more than 13,000 years ago, the former waterfall was once four times the size of Niagara Falls. Today, the 400-foot-high, 3.5-mile-wide cliff overlooks a big sky and a landscape of deep gorges and dark, reflective lakes. The park is a notable site along the National Ice Age Floods Geologic Trail.

We had a group dinner at La Prasa Mexican Restaurant before heading to the Dam light show. Very good food and HUGE Margarita. The group also surprised me with a Mexican birthday cake.

Grand Coulee Dam Laser Light Show. This was a nice event. They open the top gates slightly to let water fall over the dam to create a white screen for the laser show. Very impressive.

We hiked the Umatilla Rock on Friday morning, and then hiked the Caribou Trail & Deep Late Trail on Saturday morning before leaving.

We visited the Dry Falls Visitor Center to learn about how the coulee was formed from Ranger Dave. Very interesting.

Spokane, Washington

On Sunday, we travelled 165 miles to Spokane, Washington to Norhtern Quest Resort and Casino. The RV Resort was very nice. Large sites with grassy area and full hookups. They have campfires every night.

Pam took me out to dinner for my 60th Birthday at the Masselow’s Steakhouse (in the casino). The food was very good.

Pam and I did not do much in Spokane. We flew back to Wisconsin on Monday to attend our Sister in-law’s funeral on Tuesday – Marie Noble.

Walla Walla, Washington

On Sunday, we traveled 88 miles to Four Seasons RV Resort in Walla Walla, Washington. We are in Site 25 with full hookups. Nice location. Walla Walla has a wonderful old downtown. Lots of wineries and brew pubs in the area.

On Friday, we toured Canoe Ridge Cellars and learned a lot about the local wine region and sampled many wines.

Afterwards, we went to the Walla Walla Wine Incubator. We spent time at SMAK, a Rose only startup. Very nice.

Pam and I visited Big House Brew Pub and tried a flight of beer and had nachos for lunch. Huge and tasty.

Mountain View RV Pak – Baker City Oregon

On Wednesday, we drove 107 miles to Mountain View RV Park in Baker City, Oregon (our 25th State). Another very nice park with full hookups and nice, shaded sites; we had site 101. We arrived early to be the “Parkers” to help the other 11 campers get to their sites; there were no issues.

The park has a nice General Store, very good laundry and shower facilities. A pool and a spa. All very nice. Very quiet on the north end of town.

Wednesday evening, we had dinner at Paizano’s Pizza. We really enjoyed the Lumberjack Pizza and beer. Josh served us and gave us good ideas on what to see in the area. Very helpful. While eating, a guy picked up his family dinner packing heat.

On Thursday, we had lunch at the “Little Pig“. The food was very good. They roast their own coffee so we picked up a bag of beans. The people were super friendly, and we really enjoyed it.

Friday morning, we went to the Sweet Wife Bakery for breakfast. The food was outstanding. We shared a sticky bun as a breakfast appetizer; Pam had the Quiche and Kelly had the breakfast plate. Both were great. Pam loved her Capuchino.

On Friday, after our hike, the group had dinner at the Haines Steakhouse. They have a great salad bar and the steaks were quite good and we thought the prices were reasonable.
