The National D-Day Memorial is a must see if you are in the area. Plan to spend 2 to 4 hours to take it all in. Our tour guide was outstanding and highly knowledgeable. He could answer any questions we had.

Drove from Galax, VA (Milepost 217) to Sedalia Center (Milepost 70)
Our longest drive of the Caravan (140 miles). A beautiful day of driving. We stopped at the Mabry Mill. A really cool stop that we could have spent much more time at. The Mill’s water wheel is still spinning, and the mill still has many of the wood working tools in it.

We spent a few hours in Mount Airy, the hometown of Andy Griffith. We took the Patrol Car Tour around town. Our driver was a huge Andy Griffith fan and even bought a house that was owned by Andy’s grandparents. We saw the local Quarry and drove around the city. We saw the house Andy grew up in (which you can stay at). The cars are all Ford Galaxies. The fleet consists of a 1961, ’62, ’63, ’64, ’65, and ’67 models.
