Door County & Rally

In July, we traveled to Door County Wisconsin and went to the Door County Airstream Rally.

We met Terry and Kirk on our way to the Rally in Shawano Wisconsin. We stayed at Fawn Lake Campground for 3 nights. The group dinner at Classic’s Restaurant and Lounge; a cool place with classic rock as their theem.

While on a beer run, Terry and Kelly stopped at Twig’s Beverage and Museum; super cool place where they make and bottle old fashion soda.

We had lunch at Stubborn Brothers Brewery located in an old theater and enjoyed a beer flight. The beer was so good we bought some 32 ounce cans and Kelly filled his growler.

Terry and Pam visited Al Johnson’s Swedish Restaurant & Butik where they have goats on the roof keeping the grass roof in shape.

Next, we attended the Door County Airstream Rally in Sturgeon Bay, WI. We met up with a bunch of old friends, including the entire Robertson’s family from Kansas! Great time!

After the rally, Terry and Kirk headed home. Pam and Kelly headed to Hy-land Court RV Park in Ellison Bay, Wisconsin. We rode our bikes to the Ferry and went to Washington Island. There, we biked over 30 miles and visited a Fragrant Isle Lavender Farm, Moutain Park Lookout Tower, Jacobsen Museum, Jackson Harbor Soup for beer and chips before heading back to the ferry. Great time on the island.

Next, we headed to Sheboygan, Wisconsin and stayed at Kohler-Andrae State Park for a few days. We visited the Kohler showroom for ideas. Enjoyed lunch at the American Club’s Horse & Plow Pub where Kelly had a flight of Bacon. Yes, 4 different styles of thick cut bacon – Wow!

After leaving Wisconsin on January 2nd, we are heading back to Hudson / New Richmond; over 5,200 miles this year so far.

We had a very nice 4 nights in Cape San Blas (close to Port St. Joe) staying at RV on 30E. Walks on the beach every day and wonderful sunsets. We enjoyed tacos at Peachy’s Beach Eats. We really enjoy this place!

Thursday, we headed north 381 miles (8 hours) to Goat Island Brewery (Harvest Host) in Cullman, Alabama. We enjoyed a flight of beer before retiring for a night of boondocking.

Friday, we travelled 339 miles (7 hours) to Marion Campground in Marion, IL. A nice overnight stay. Quiet and easy.

Saturday, we travelled 238 miles (5 hours) to Scott and Nany’s in Barry, IL. We will hang out for a couple of days and head north on Monday. Plan to get back to Hudson / New Richmond on the Tuesday the 9th of May.

We plan to spend the summer in Wisconsin enjoying friends and family and starting the next phase of our adventure – buying land and building our summer home. Stay tuned for updates.

Dauphin Island, Alabama

We spent the past week relaxing on Dauphin Island in Alabama. This is a nice, quiet island get away. We are staying at the Pelican Nest RV & Campground. A small RV park across the street from the beach.

We have enjoyed walking on the beach on the nice days, and relaxing on the rainy days. We rented bikes 1 day and rode to the west end of the island. We also drove to the east end of the island and enjoyed the bird sanctuary at Shell Mound Park.

Sunday, we head to Florida for 4 final days of beach time before heading north.

Camino Challange – Finished!

This week, Pam and Kelly finished our Camino de Santiago Virtual Challenge. We finished it right on time in 84 days / 12 weeks. We completed 481 miles or an average of 5.72 miles per day.

We received 14 postcards along way and planted 10 trees. Our medals are in the mail – looking forward to seeing them when we get back to Wisconsin. We are still planning to walk the actual Camino later this fall.

We started our next challenge to keep the effort. The 280 Mile Grand Canyon Challenge where we are virtually rafting down the Colorado River.

New Orleans Walk

On Saturday, we walked over 10 miles seeing only a small part of New Orleans.

First up, Cafe Beignet on Decatur Street for Beignets, coffee and Bloody Mary’s.

We walked along the river, and then rode the St. Charles Trolley out to the garden district to see all the old mansions.

We downloaded A Free Self-Guided Tour of The Garden District New Orleans which took us to 18 mansions.

After the tour, we walked the 3 miles back to the French Quarter and visited may establishments for nourishment and refreshments along the way.

The Avenue Pub, where we met Kenny. We each had a local beer. Before leaving, we both got a drink “To Go” and headed out the door. Yes, you can drink while walking in New Orleans.

We made a quick stop at Ruby Slipper for a refreshments.

Cresent City Brewhouse for lunch. Kelly had the gumbo, and Pam had 6 freshly shucked oysters. Pam thought they were great!

Leah’s Pralines for their famous Pralines. $50 later, we have dessert for the next couple of weeks. Looking forward to the Bacon Pecan Brittle they are famous for.

We finished the day at Armantine Seafood for a couple of specialty drinks before heading back to the RV.
