After the ride, some of us had lunch at the Wicked Chicken. Nice outdoor dining with great wings and cold beer.

Grand Father Revisited & MacRae Peak

On Tuesday, a group of us revisited Grand Father Mountain and the Swinging Bridge. What a difference a few days makes. It was sunny and warm.

Pam, Celeste and I then decided to take the Grandfather Trail to MacRae Peak. It was a 0.9 mile hike to the peak with some challenging climbing up rocks and ladders. We lost count, but there were at least 8 ladders. What a fantastic and challenging hike. The views from the top were amazing.

Hike: Boon Fork Trail

Doug on our Caravan organized a great 5.2 mile hike at the Julian Price Memorial Park: Boone Fork Trail. Just Gorgeous. We had 12 People and 2 dogs. We had a great time. T

Epic hike! Took us 3 hours & 45 minutes to complete. Went clockwise through the campgrounds first. Beautiful, well-maintained, well-marked trail with small water crossings, stairs, and rock scrambles to navigate. It was challenging but doable. Hiking poles were helpful.

Grand Father Mountain

On Saturday, the group toured Grand Father Mountain with the famous “Mile High” Swinging Bridge. The winds were blowing around 35mph (56kph) and the winds blew in hard. It was an adventure. By the way, they only close the bridge when the winds get above 55mph.

Actual Photo while we were ther from a couple of guys who like to take action shots!

After conquering the bridge, we went to the Wildlife Habitat to see cougars (which no longer live in the wild on Grandfather Mountain), black bears, bald eagles, river otters and elk. These animals were all rescued and could no longer survive in the wild.

Boone KOA Campground

Pam and I really liked this campground. Our site (G4) was a bit tight for our trailer and truck, and was almost 3″ unlevel side to side, but everything else was great. Every site had picnic table and portable fire pit.

Friday night, we had a group dinner at Dan’l Boone Inn, a huge family style dinner. No one went home hungry.

Saturday, the group went to Grand Father Mountain.

Sunday, we had a group “Bring Your Own” cookout and campfire. 4 grills were setup for people to grill their own food, and every people brought a dish to share.

Monday, 16 People and Bella hiked the Bone Fork Trail.

Tuesday, some of us went back to Grand Father Mountain. Pam, Celeste and I took the trail to MacRae Peak.

Wednesday, the group rode the Virginia Creeper Bike Ride. a 17-mile ride down 2,000 feet of elevation.
