Bear Den Campground

We are staying 2 nights @ Bear Den Campground in Spruce Pine, NC. Another very nice campground with lots of things to do and hiking trails.

The first night, we had a cook-out with Hamburgers and Hot dogs. Afterwards, Pam and Kelly hosted a campfire in our site (C01).

Thursday morning there was a group breakfast serving Oatmeal with Ice Cream. this is an Airstream thing. New to us, but it was different, but tasty.

Pam took a hike to Linville Falls (separate post).

Travel Day 2 – Driving in the Clouds

Asheville, NC (Milepost 388) to Spruce Pine, NC (Milepost 324)

We again took the Blue Ridge Parkway. Wow – it was Fog all the way. Dense fog where visibility was down to 30 feet. We drove slowly (following Al and Linda) and made it safely to Bear Den Campground (separate post).

Grove Park Inn – Sunday Brunch

Sunday, we went to the Omni Grove Park Inn for Sunday Brunch. We arrived an hour early to walk the grounds and take in this amazing hotel. While waiting, we had Bloody Mary’s / Mimosas in the gardens. Fantastic.

Then, it was off to Bruch. We fully enjoyed a farm-to-table artisanal buffet overlooking the majestic Blue Ridge Mountains. Three massive rooms are filled with amazing breakfast options. Here is a link to the Sunday Bruch Menu (Huge).

I cannot remember a time when I was so full. Everything was amazing and I kept going back for more. I literally did not eat again for 24 hours.

Ziplining in the Mountains

The group went Ziplining at Navitat Adventures.

Wow, we had 3 great zipline runs for a total of 3,600 feet. The middle run was really long at 2,300 feet. An amazing aerial zipline adventure! Side-by-side zips with jaw-dropping speeds and heights make this a thrilling unforgettable experience.

Biltmore Gardens and Wine Tasting

After the house tour, we had a nice lunch at the Stables Cafe and then toured the extensive gardens and green houses. For dessert, we had fantastic Bon-Bon’s from the confectionary shop.

Next, we split a grilled cheese sandwich at Cedric’s Tavern along with a glass of local beer. We finished the day with a free wine tasting at the Biltmore Winery (bought 3 bottles, so not completely free). We were able to sample 5 wines.

All on all a great / long day. This is a must see in you are in the area.
