Marfa, Valentine & Alpine Texas

We went on a tour of these three towns. After Marfa, on our way to Valentine, we ran into the roadside art display from the motion picture “Giant” with James Dean, Elizabeth Taylor and Rock Hudson.

Then, we went to the Prada Marfa art exhibit. Again pretty cool.

Finally, we ended up in Alpine. Another nice town with lots of murals and artwork. We had a great Mexican food for lunch at a new restaurant (old El Patio). Very nice.

Davis Mountain RV Park

We arrived at this very nice RV Park in Fort Davis, TX. Simple park with full hookups for $25/day. We have a nice view out the back of the mountain range. That’s right, mountain range. We did not know Texas had mountains. We are at 5,200 feet above sea level. The temperatures are nice, in the 70’s and the humidity is much lower. Buster and Pam are fantastic hosts. A great location as a base to see the area. Big Bend, Marfa, Alpine, McDonald Observatory and so much more.

We also drove the 75 mile Scenic Loop through the mountains. Unfortunately, the McDonald Observatory was closed, but we saw a pack of wild Javelinas (pigs).

Medina River Winery

Pam and I stayed here overnight though Harvest Hosts. What a great place. We had a very nice wine tasting with Ken. He really taught us about how the wines are produced and a lot about wine making overall. Highly recommend stopping in or staying the night. We got a tour of the wine production and Ken let us sample a wine right out of the barrel. Sat outside and enjoyed a bottle of wine to end the night.

Diving North – Pam Takes the Wheel

It is finally time to start heading North. Yesterday we washed the rig. Top to bottom. Really liked Long Island Village. Great spot and great neighbors all around.
Pam took the wheel for the first time. Did a great job driving for over an hour.

5,000 Mile Mark & Where Next

Today, we will pass the 5,000 Mile Mark on our Trip; that is 138 hours in the truck! We also setup the next leg of our trip from South Padre Island to Tucson, AZ. Heading for Lake Havasu we think. Maybe go back to the Grand Canyon.
