With temperatures in the 80’s and full Sunshine – On Saturday, we took a top-down drive to the Tuscon Area.
Our destination was the Mission San Xavier del Bac (Spanish: La Misión de San Xavier del Bac) which is a historic Spanish Catholic mission located about 10 miles (16 km) south of downtown Tucson, Arizona, on the Tohono O’odham Nation San Xavier Indian Reservation.
The mission was founded in 1692 by Padre Eusebio Kino. The mission was named for Francis Xavier, a Christian missionary and co-founder of the Society of Jesus (Jesuit Order) in Europe. The original church was built to the north of the present Franciscan church. This northern church or churches served the mission until it was razed during an Apache raid in 1770.
On the way, we drove through the Saguaro National Park West which was fantastic with lots of Saguaro. They look to have a lot of great hikes; we will return for a full day at the park.
While at the park, Kelly was able to get his lifetime national park pass now that he is 62! The cost is only $80 and allows not only Kelly, but the entire car of people into any national park. Old age can really pay off sometimes.
We finished the trip with an early dinner at Guadalajara’s Mexican Grill. The food was outstanding, and they made fresh Salsa and Guacamole at your table; both were great. Highly recommend.
