Thomas Stone Barn

On our way back to Hudson / New Richmond, we stopped at the Thomas Stone Barn in Barneveld, WI. The barn / homestead from Pam’s family and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Pam’s cousin Doug Thomas lives and manages the farm.

Not only did we visit, but Doug needed help to unload the hay he bailed the day before. We all pitched in to get the job done.

The Prairie Enthusiasts acquired this property from Doug Thomas, whose family has owned the property for four generations since purchased in 1860. The property includes a historic barn, which is on the National Register and State Register of Historic Places. The land is just north of 79 acres The Nature Conservancy purchased from Harold Thomas, Doug Thomas’s father, in 1997. In 2005 the Driftless Area Land Conservancy purchased a conservation and historic preservation easement from the Thomas family to permanently protect the 190-acre Thomas farm and historic barn.

Most of the land is open to the public for hiking, hunting and wildlife watching. Mr. Doug Thomas retained a life estate on 11.2 acres that include the Thomas home, historic barn and other farm buildings, and this land is not yet open to the public.

Heading to Wisconsin

After spending a few days setting up our new Airstream, it was time to head north to spend the month of July in Hudson / New Richmond. We plan to arrive on Monday the 4th. We will be keeping the Airstream at Barry and Sue’s house. We built an RV spot for it before we left, and Barry has added water and electricity – sweet setup.

Before leaving Illinois, Carolyn, Jeff, Nicole and Evan stopped by to see the new digs. They were our first visitors.

We left on Friday and headed to Dubuque to see Christine and Andy. We stayed at Miller Riverview Park right on the Mississippi River. Pam snagged a site right on the river! We had dinner at Pete’s Thai Kitchen. Very good Thai. If you go there, you need to try the Thai Chili Margarita. Wow.

Saturday, we head to Wisconsin. We stopped in Monroe to see Bob and show him the new Airstream and take him out to Baumgartner’s for lunch. Bob had the Limberger sandwich – not too stinky.

We are staying at Tom’s campground in Dodgeville. This is an old homestead where the owners added a campground where others could come to enjoy rural Wisconsin. We have a great site on a hill overlooking the fields. Great views and sunsets.

Saturday night, Tom, Doug, Greg and Rita stopped by for a visit.

Luna Rosa 2.0

Lots of changes for Pam and Kelly. After full time living in our 27′ Airstream for 8 months, we decided we need more room and improved living space.

So, on Monday, we traded in our 2019 27 foot Globetrotter on a 2022 33 foot Classic. The new trailer is 5-1/2 feet longer, with lots of better storage and is significantly more comfortable. For details, watch the video below.

Kelly has a desk to work at and a 60″ projection TV. Pam loves the new refrigerator that is massive compared to the old one. The other major improvement is the bathroom. It has a wonderful shower that is huge and lots of cabinets and mirrors. Going with the twin bed version gave us lots of additional storage (inside and outside).

Another major upgrade is our truck setup. We are getting rid of the aluminum tonneau cover and roof racks and ordered a Leer 180 truck cap and a truck bed slide. This will give us significantly more storage in the truck bet and make it much easier to load and unload.

Chaning the truck bed meant we needed to sell our eBikes. It was just too hard to carry them above the truck bed. After 20,000 miles riding up there, they were beat up. We went through multiple covers trying to keep them safe and dry. We sold the bikes to a nice couple of ladies who traveled from Michigan (4 hours) to pick them up. Eventually, we will change over to folding eBikes that will fit in the truck bed. At this moment, we will most likely get Lectric XP 2.0 bikes.

Milwaukee / Airstream Rally

We attended the Wisconsin-UP (Upper Peninsula) Airstream Rally in Wisconsin at the Wisconsin State Fair Park Campground.

On Friday, Pam and I rode our eBike along the Hank Arron Trail to the lakefront. With Summerfest going, we were not able to get to the lake front. It was a nice 12-mile ride on a beautiful day.

That evening, we had a group dinner at the Lakefront Brewery.

On Saturday, the group saw the Brewers beat the Toronto Blue jays. We were able to get extra tickets form my dad as well as Scott and Nancy who came up from Illinios for the game.
